Beaver lure
lure recipe 1
1.Grind up a couple semi-dry castors, or chop them...
2.Add some Sac Oil, but only a squirt or two...this can overpower the whole lure if too much is used.
3.a Cup of Glycerin added to make it Thick Paste texture. add until it is Thick but not runny...
4 Capful of Peppermint Schnapps...one bottle should last a lifetime.
5. Add some Birch Oil, Or Popple Bud Oil... bergamot oil etc.
6. Teaspoon of Sodium Benzoate.. Preservative.... I use it, but you don't absolutely need it.

Mix it all together and Use. You can split your batch in Two before adding the last ingredients and make Special trial batches with different Oil extracts... I buy them from MTP because they are Pure. and they Work!!! Write your ingredients down with a permanent marker on Tape to the side and top of each Jar... or name it and number it with your recipe on a card in your shop... keep track of your catches... Making your own change up lure is Super easy, and Fun... most of all you have all you'll ever need.

Sometimes in the Fall when the Adult beaver get wary in a colony if you haven't caught them the first couple nights. You can make a Feeding station slide set using their own small white feed sticks. Only Use a squirt of Birch Oil OR Popple Bud oil to the mud allowing a couple drops to get in the water and create a slick.... Complete your set Using Non-Castor lures allows for me to catch many Wary Adults, that won't come near Castor Base lure anymore

Lure recipe 2
Take a CLEAN jar. I like the small mustard or mayo sized jars... Put any amount of dried, ground beaver castor in it, add enough glycerin to completely cover plus about an ounce...but do not fill the jar more than 3/4 full... The longer this sets and ages, the better it will be.
Lure recipe 3
Make the lure the same as above with glycerin and dried ground beaver castor, but also add 2 or 3 drops of poplar bud oil, just enough to smell when mixed in... And, of course, the longer it sets and ages, the better.

(The two lures above were my most used lures for beaver. I found these lures worked as well or better than any other lures I have ever used for beaver, whether homemade or bought commercially...and they are simple and easy to make... Before using them at your set, mix well with a clean stick.)

Lure recipe 4
2 ounces dried ground beaver castor
1 ounce beaver sack oil
1 ounce glycerin
6 or 7 drops of birch oil (no more than this)

The above beaver lures are all time proven lures, and will do their job if the trapper does his... know that no lure will "call animals from across the pond", no matter what the advertisements may say. And there are no "magic lures" or sets... The lures and sets must be placed where the animals will find them if they are going to work.
